Report Highlights
The CIÉ Group Sustainability Annual Review sets out the progress made in implementing the Group’s Sustainability Strategy in 2024. The report highlights dozens of programmes across various areas including:
- Launch of Ireland’s first all-electric regional bus fleet in Limerick by Bus Éireann;
- Delivery of new battery-electric DART+ trains to Iarnród Éireann;
- A 8.5% reduction in emissions intensity per kilometre travelled since 2019;
- Expanded solar PV and rainwater harvesting infrastructure across depots;
- Significant progress in biodiversity mapping, heritage archiving, and inclusive recruitment.
- The 2024 Review also details CIÉ Group’s preparations for compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD.
- With a focus on innovation, social value, and climate leadership, the CIÉ Group is working to ensure that sustainability is at the heart of Ireland’s public transport system.
CIÉ Group Sustainability Strategy 2020
CIÉ Group’s sustainability strategy has a strong focus on meeting Ireland’s national climate targets, transitioning to a low carbon and zero emissions fleet, reducing consumption of fossil fuels, and improving energy efficiency across operations.
Our sustainability strategy represents a coordinated plan of action across the Group and aims to align operations with the targets outlined in the national Climate Action Plan and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
Our Group Sustainability Strategy was first published in 2020, and we have completed reviews of the strategy in 2021 and 2022.
