Did you know that CIÉ produced an in-house newspaper for most of its existence? Up to 1953 the CIÉ Weekly News, which from 1950 was incorporated into The Link, informed CIÉ staff and anyone else who was interested about the goings-on in the company and in the Irish transport sector in general. Among its contributors was Edna O'Brien, writing a column under the name 'Sabiola'.

From 1960 onward a new publication, Nuacht CIÉ, continued to inform CIÉ readers about company affairs and offer opinions on transport in Ireland. The newspaper changed format to a glossy magazine in the 1990s, but as digital took over the last physical Nuacht rolled off the presses in 2003.

Nuacht CIÉ continues as a digital internal publication produced by the CIÉ Holding Company, keeping alive the tradition of keeping CIÉ staff informed about their company.

While CIÉ Group Archives holds digital copies of most of these publications, we only have a few physical copies, and we would be interested in hearing from any former staff members who hold some old copies of either newspapers. If you would be interested in donating your copies to CIÉ Group Archives, please contact us at archives@cie.ie.
